The 2017 NFL season begins in September. There is a high level of excitement for every new season of the NFL and that’s because every American sports fan out there loves the sport of American football; but this time, there is more reason for anticipation since the defending Super Bowl LI champs, New England Patriots, will be going up against the Kansas City Chiefs to open the season. And of course, there’s the fantasy league, NFL free picks, and people trying to get some heads-up on early betting odds.
You probably have read so many team previews and discussions about which team is winning it this year and which rivalries will heat up once again; but how about the top players to keep an eye on for the 2017 season?
1 – Robert Griffin III
The former Cleveland Browns QB is currently a free agent after the team cut him last March. Although recently cut, it does not mean that he’s done. A recipient of the 2011 Heisman trophy, it’s hard to imagine him sitting out the new season and if we were to bet on it, we’ll go for him finding a new team sooner than later.
2 – Matt Ryan
Every NFL fan would agree that Ryan is one of the most popular players in the league these days. But then again, a huge chunk of that popularity is because of his team, the Atlanta Falcons’ epic choke against the reigning champs in the most recent Super Bowl. But the very same setback Ryan endured last season can also be the best motivation to return as a hungrier and more desperate quarterback for the Falcons.
3 – Michael Thomas
The wide receiver for the New Orleans Saints played remarkably last season, totaling 92 catches and 1,137 yards, which in turn produces enough intrigue as to how he can sustain the momentum in the new season. Considering that the Saints are likely to boost their offense in the upcoming NFL season, it only means Thomas will be in for a bigger and more crucial role. The former college star from Ohio State University showed a lot of promise during his rookie season when he broke team records for a rookie in receptions, touchdowns, and receiving yards.
4 – Black Bortles
The 25-year old has a lot of making up to do after a mediocre season last year. The good thing going for the third overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft is the fact that he is well-loved as the quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars; he just needs to learn how to be mature enough to carry the responsibility of leading his team this season.
